Nature of the Program: Building Maintenance workers have skills in many different crafts and often do several different tasks in different locations. They may work in a single building or several different buildings. Most general maintenance workers work 40 hours a week but may have to work evening, night, or weekend shift and/or be on call for emergencies. If a smaller establishment employs you, you may work alone and with limited supervision. If a larger establishment employs you, you will probably be under the supervision of a more experienced worker.
Completion of the Program: Upon completion of the Building Maintenance Technology program, students should have the qualifications to start a career in the maintenance and repair of residential, office, apartment building, or other commercial buildings. This course will also provide a sound foundation for those students who will be continuing on to a trade school or college. Opportunities to enter these types of jobs are always in demand. All facilities that are man made are always in need of repair at one time or another. Many positions become available as experienced building maintenance tradesmen retire and new modern facilities are being built every day.
