Administrative Director’s Message
Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County will begin the process of achieving Middles States Association accreditation in the 2017-2018 school year. This process will validate our continuous program improvement initiatives, strategic planning and the success and achievement of our students.
We will be devoting a significant amount of our resources (financial and human) to completing Phase I of our exterior renovation. The exterior renovation is expected to take 2-3 years with the end result being a more welcoming and campus-like update to our front-facing entrance. Our students and staff, as part of their learning process and to display the excellence of their craftsmanship abilities will do much of the work. Photos of the work and progress will be displayed on our website.
We will be reviewing and revising our Cooperative Education program to enhance the opportunities for our students and to strengthen the learning component of the job placements. We expect to certify up to ten additional teachers this year in Cooperative Education and use that capacity to jumpstart a new and expanded program.
We continue to update our equipment and programs. The Welding program acquired a new Sub-Arc Welding machine and robotic welding arm that students will begin using; our Collision Repair program will begin implementing the I-Car curriculum and certification process; Our Health Occupations program will begin concurrent enrollment with Pennsylvania College of Technology and our Graphics and Print program will begin instruction on Flexographic printing technology on a newly acquired press. In addition, our Computer Systems program will begin on-site certification testing through Pearson-Vue and we have entered into an affiliation agreement with a local employer which will allow selected students from our Protective Services program to achieve their EMT certification.
On August 29th we will hold our first New Student/Parent/Teacher Orientation from 5:30 – 8:30PM. Newly admitted students and their families will have the opportunity to meet their teacher and other school staff and begin to build the relationships that will carry us through the school year together. Our back-to-school night for families of current students will be held on September 13th from 6:00-8:00PM and an Open House is scheduled for November 10, 2017. Prospective students and their families are encouraged to schedule an appointment to visit CTC for a tour at any time.Sincerely,Thomas Baileys, Ed. D.Administrative Director
