Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
47.0201 Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation & Refrigeration Maintenance Technology/Technician
Overview: The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, repair, and maintain commercial and domestic heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Instruction includes theory and application of basic principles involved in the conditioning of air (cooling and heating); filtering and controlling humidity; operating characteristics of various units and parts; blueprint reading; use of technical reference manuals; the diagnosis of malfunctions; overhaul, repair, and adjustment of units and parts such as pumps, compressors, valves, springs and connections; and repair of electric, electronic and pneumatic control systems. The use of books, catalogs, and electronic resources are an important component of instruction.

Applying OSHA safety regulations and use of PPE to work in the field

Identify, use and maintain Hand and Power Tools of the trade

Read and Interpret Blueprints

Identify, install and repair various types of piping materials used in the field of HVAC/R.

An understanding of the basic concepts of electricity and how it applies directly to HVAC equipment and troubleshooting

Wiring and troubleshooting of Mechanical and Electronic relays

Applying Relevant Electrical codes

Understanding and Explanation of the refrigeration cycle. Including identification of components and their purpose within the system.

Leak detection, recovery and evacuation of various types of refrigeration systems

Identification, installation and troubleshooting of both hot air and hydronic heating systems

Identification, fabrication and installation of air distribution systems
