Special Education

OVERVIEW

Student Enrollment Process

  • In 9th grade, special education students can attend a tour of CTCLC. These are coordinated with CTCLC's Community Outreach Coordinator, sending school counselors, and CTCLC's Supervisor of Special Education. Tours take place in the Fall. Students are given a presentation by the CTCLC Community Outreach Coordinator prior to the district's scheduled tour. At the presentation, an overview of CTCLC and its offerings are reviewed.
  • Students have the opportunity to visit various shops they may be interested in prior to completing the application with the participation in CTCLC Shadow Days. These Shadow Days can be coordinated through their sending school counselor or CTCLC's Supervisor of Special Education. Course requirements are reviewed with students by the program instructor. Students spend the entire morning at the CTCLC.
  • The Supervisor of Special Education, along with the learning support teacher, reviews the courses a student has selected. Based on the course requirements and the student’s ability, the Supervisor of Special Education makes a selection.
  • The Supervisor of Special Education discusses with the IEP team the program each student will attend. Modifications and accommodations are added to the IEP at this time. These modifications are specific to the CTCLC programs.

Existing Students at the CTCLC

  • The Supervisor of Special Education attends IEP meetings for special education students presently attending CTCLC. The Supervisor of Special Education brings a performance report from each student’s CTCLC instructor and student progress is reviewed.
  • A copy of each student’s current IEP or 504 plan is kept on file at the CTCLC. All instructors are given a copy of the accommodations for each special education student in their program.
  • The Supervisor of Special Education is in contact with the homeschool Student Services Coordinator and/or learning support teacher to discuss the student’s progress at CTCLC. Examples of this are progress reports and behavioral issues that may arise.
  • Para-educators are also available to assist special education students daily with classroom activities, tests, note-taking, etc
