November Student of the Month: Sponsored by Fastenal

Kimberly Maldonado, a senior from West Scranton High School, has been nominated November Student of the Month by her Child Care & Development Instructor, Mrs. Kristine Lenceski. “Kimberly is always taking initiative whether to help other students or to help her teacher. She demonstrates many skills, such as leadership, communication skills, problem-solving skills, professionalism, patience, and social skills. She is a great role model for younger children and is respectful to both teachers and peers. Kim is an active, reliable CTC Student Ambassador that takes time to explain and introduce new programs during tours. She demonstrates great interpersonal skills when interacting with others and is energetic, positive, and inspiring ”, stated Mrs. Lenceski.  While in the Child Care and Development program, Kim has obtained her OSHA10, Mandated Reporter, and multiple employability skills through Career Safe, such as Materials Management, Written Communication, Teamwork & Team Management, Human Resource Management, Cybersecurity Essentials for Work, Time Management, Communication Skills, and Interviewing Skills. 

 

Kimberly is the daughter of Sandra Banegas and Jose Maldonado. Kim strives to maintain high grades at West Scranton and CTC. ”I chose to go to CTC because it was the first school that caught my attention to further my education in the career path that I wanted to learn. Not only was I ready to work hands-on but I was also ready to gain knowledge & experience from specialized teachers”, stated Kim. 

 

At West Scranton, Kim is a member of the Drama Club and the Colorguard. At the CTC, Kimberly has been a Student Ambassador for two years, giving tours to incoming students and, is evolved in the 5th Grade Career Exploration Days. In her spare time, she likes to dance, sing, play musical instruments, learn new languages, and take part in the community. 

 

Upon graduation, Kimberly plans to take a year off and then go to a university to study music and pre-med to become a Pediatrician. Also, she looks to work in the child-care field on the side.

Sidney Grippi, a senior from Scranton High School, has been nominated November Student of the Month by her Protective Services Instructor, Mr. Jonathan Coyne. “Sidney is a young, driven individual who has grown leaps and bounds throughout her three years at CTCLC. She is an individual who is willing to take on the leadership role in the program and help her fellow classmates whenever needed. She has chosen to apply for early enrollment into the United States Navy for Medical Corpsman. Sidney has spearheaded several projects to assist the CTC Safety Committee by making sure the To-Go buckets are up to date, the Purple Paint markings are correct, and the Stop the Bleed Kits are correct to name a few”, stated Mr. Coyne. While in the Protective Services program, Sidney has completed her ICS Nims 100 & 700, ASHI CPR/FirstAid, PPBT, and PATH training through PPCI. She participated in Co-Op as a junior with Pennsylvania Ambulance and recently obtained her NREMT(National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) certification and PA EMT numbers. 

 

Sidney is the daughter of Megan and Lenny Grippi. At Scranton HS she is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, and has maintained a 95 or higher throughout high school. At CTC, Sidney is a Student Ambassador and SkillsUSA competitor. Last year, she went to the SkillsUSA state competition and competed in FirstAid/CPR, and plans to compete again this year. “I chose CTC because I knew CTC was the best option for me. I saw how much my older brother enjoyed his program and there was no question I knew I wanted to go to CTC. I chose Protective Services because it had everything I enjoyed learning and was the best choice”, stated Sidney. 

 

Sidney is enlisted in the United States Navy as a Corpsman but plans to also attend college and get her degree in Forensic Anthropology.

Qasim Williams, a junior from West ScrantonHigh School, has been nominated November Student of the Month by his Collision Repair Instructor, Mrs. Jaymie Shuleski. “Qasim is a wonderful and extremely intelligent student. He strives to do the extreme best in everything he can possibly do, not only in this class. Last year he had an unfortunate accident and still stayed on top of all of his classwork. When returning, he did not let anything stand in his way of attempting to learn and try something new in the shop. He has never said no when asked to do anything and I rarely have to ask him; he always volunteers”, stated Mrs. Shuleski. While in the Collision Repair program, Qasim obtained his OSHA10, I-CAR, SP/2 Collision Repair Pollution Prevention, Successful Meeting Management certificate, Be A Pro! Life Skills for Professional Success certification, Telephone Skills for Today’s Professional World certification, Ethics & You in the Automotive Industry certification, Land that Job! Resume Builder certification, Developing Effective Communication Skills certification, Plastic Repair Series, SP/2 Collision Repair & Refinish Safety, Automotive Fluids 101, Motor Oil Certification, Automotive Chemicals 101, and WD-40: Cleaning, Storage, & Maintenance of Tools and Equipment. 

 

Qasim is the son of Naimah Williams. At West Scranton, Qasim is a member of the Honor Roll, Football, Wrestling, and Track & Field teams and participates in the community service club. At CTC, Qasim is a Student Ambassador and will be competing at SkillsUSA. “ I chose to attend CTC because I’m more of a hands-on type of student. CTC has many choices and I chose Collision Repair because I have always been fond of cars and the way they look. Collision is teaching me how they look, work, and so much more”, stated Qasim.

 

Although only a junior, upon graduation, Qasim plans to either attend a trade school or enter the workforce.
