March Student of the Month: Sponsored by Fastenal
Alyssa Renna, a senior from Dunmore High School, has been nominated March Student of the Month by her Culinary Instructor, Mr. Steve Anania. “Alyssa is always ready to work and help when and where needed. She is beyond thoughtful and respectful to others and is always willing to help her classmates. She has maintained an A average throughout her three years at CTC in the Culinary program”, stated Chef Steve. While in the Culinary program, Alyssa obtained her OSHA10 Culinary Arts Certification, and ServSafe Food Handlers Certification.
Alyssa is the daughter of Michelle Renna. Alyssa strives to keep high grades and will be inducted into the National Technical Honor Society in April. “I came to CTC for a fresh start and for the hands-on learning that CTC provides”, stated Alyssa.
Alyssa competed in the SkillsUSA district competition this year in Restaurant Service and got a bronze medal. She volunteers for all the culinary extracurricular activities and after-school catering. Alyssa has also won various in-house culinary and baking competitions. At Dunmore, Alyssa is a member of the gaming club and mock trial team.
Upon graduation, Alyssa plans to pursue a degree from the Culinary Institute of America.

Natalia Estevez, a senior from Scranton High School, has been nominated March Student of the Month by her Cosmetology Instructor, Mrs. Kristina Petrauskas. “Natalia is a kind and hardworking student. She has completed her 1,250 hours required for state board licensure and is preparing for the exam. She is a team player and will help other students without hesitation. Natalia is dedicated to gaining as much knowledge as she can in her remaining time at CTCLC.”, stated Mrs. Petrauskas. While in the Cosmetology program, Natalia obtained her OSHA10, Barbicide Covid19, Barbicide certification, and CareerSafe Interview certificate. She has participated in a variety of community service events with the Cosmetology class. Natalia has participated in over 5 cosmetology community service trips where she performs haircuts, mini manicures, and mini facials on members of our community.
Natalia is the daughter of Tanya Thomas. “I came to CTC because I wanted to do something different and wanted to learn how to do hair”, stated Natalia. She has participated in SkillsUSA in both junior and senior year. Junior year, she received a gold medal in Districts for Action Skills and senior year, she received a silver medal in Districts for Action Skills. In her spare time, Natalia is busy practicing hairstyling and has a part-time job.
Upon graduation, Natalia would like to go to New York City and open her own hair salon.

Ryan Spies, a senior from Scranton High School, has been nominated March Student of the Month by his Carpentry Instructor, Mr. Shane Malicky. “Ryan is a wonderful student to have in the carpentry program. He has great attendance and grades throughout his tenure at the CTCLC. Ryan is currently working through the co-op program at Simplex Homes, which he thoroughly enjoys. He also recently attained his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America”, stated Mr. Malicky. While in the carpentry program, Ryan has obtained his OSHA 10, four American Ladder Safety Training Certifications, and is currently working on his OSHA 30.
Ryan is the son of Joyce Spies. When asked why he chose CTC, Ryan stated, “ I always liked to be hands-on and I enjoy working. I didn’t want a boring job so I decided to go to CTC, for carpentry, and get a job I enjoyed”.
At Scranton, Ryan maintains a 90 average and is the captain of the Scranton HS swim team. Ryan is also an active Eagle Scout for Troop57. In his spare time, he takes part in many community services events.
Upon graduation, Ryan plans to maintain employment while attending Johnson College, to further his knowledge in Carpentry.
