April Student of the Month: Sponsored by Fastenal
Rhys Fortuner, a senior from Forest City Regional HS, has been nominated April Student of the Month by her Welding Instructor, Mr. Landon York. “Rhys is a student who is very dedicated to classwork. While in Welding, she has obtained 3 & 4g AWS welding qualifications, OSHA 10, and 30 forklift certification”, stated Mr. York. She has been a Student Ambassador for the past two years and is currently the Student Ambassador President. She is well organized and a student who is always looking to help other students whether it’s in Welding class or with anything throughout the school. Rhys is a compassionate student who will go on to use that trait while training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Rhys is the daughter of Michael Fortuner. At Forest City Regional, Rhys is a member of the Student Council and the National Honor Society and was a member of the basketball team.
Upon Graduation, Rhys will continue her education to become a CNA.

Mason Richards, a junior from North Pocono High School, has been nominated April Student of the Month by his Building Mechanics Instructor, Mr. Merle Gilpin. “Mason is always on time, on task, and in good spirits. He is a leader in the Junior Capstone program and is currently employed by Kobalt Construction”, stated Mr. Gilpin. While in the Building Mechanics program, Mason has obtained OSHA10 and OSHA30 for construction certification. He competed at the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania STATE Competition and won Silver in the Teamworks competition. He was recognized for his accomplishments in the Scranton Times School Notes in December.
Mason is the son of Jennifer and Fred Richards. “I chose to come to CTC because I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to be able to use my hands and learn new things”, stated Mason. Mason is succeeding in his Co-Op placement at Kobalt Construction
At North Pocono HS, Mason is Captain of the Varsity Football team. He enjoys hunting and fishing. I enjoy hanging out with my friends. I also enjoy working and learning new things.

Jake Knick, a junior from Valley View HS has been nominated April Student of the Month by his Plumbing Instructor, Mr. Oscar Soto. “Jake has maintained good grades, and is excellent when it comes to both theory and lab class”, stated Mr. Soto. While in Plumbing, Jake has obtained OSHA 10, multiple ladder certifications. Jake competed at the SkillsUSA state competition and won a Silver medal for Teamworks. He is also currently enrolled in the Lackawanna College for Petroleum and Natural Gas. He was also recognized for his accomplishments in the Scranton Times School Notes.
Jake is the son of Debra and Richard Knick. When asked why Jake came to CTC he responded with, “The desire to learn a trade and eventually try and become a jack of all trades”. He is active in the community picking up trash near lakes and rivers .
At Valley View HS, Jake achieved the honor roll every quarter this year and is looking to achieve distinguished honors. He has played football, is a member of the history club and the chess club. In his spare time, he enjoys lawn maintenance and partakes in food drives.
